Focus on coordinating multidisciplinary engineering, developing fabrication suppliers, solving novel-material design challenges, and delivering the component within schedule and budget.

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; on-site

Salary: $150,000–$225,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

  • Lead mechanical engineers in planning and delivering the ARC vacuum vessel and connected systems.
  • Oversee the complete design lifecycle from concept development and CAD modeling through procurement, fabrication, and assembly.
  • Coordinate vacuum-vessel interfaces with other ARC plant systems and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership for complex design challenges involving extreme conditions, novel materials, structural analysis, and fluid cooling.
  • Work with supply chain, materials, processing, and suppliers to develop fabrication capabilities for the vessel.
  • Manage schedule, budget, hiring, training, performance expectations, and execution across the group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or related fields.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary engineering projects, large metallic structures, complex fabrication, and structural analysis.
  • Knowledge of finite element structural analysis and fluid cooling of mechanical structures.
  • Ability to work in dynamic R&D environments involving novel materials and rapidly changing conditions.
  • Ability to work on-site and occasionally travel, work nights or weekends, or participate in on-call coverage; safety compliance is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing systems operating at high temperatures of 600°C / 1100°F.
