Salary: $90,000–$145,000 per year, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

  • Own cable magnet hardware for SPARC, ARC, and other projects from concept through design validation, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, and installation.
  • Develop and iterate mechanical design concepts using physics, structural mechanics, and analysis techniques for metallic and composite components.
  • Perform thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis to verify that hardware meets requirements.
  • Collaborate with R&D, analysis, manufacturing, and procurement teams to deliver program milestones.
  • Diagnose production and assembly issues, identify root causes, and implement design solutions and design-for-manufacturing or assembly changes.
  • Prepare design notes, technical specifications, reports, presentations, and validation documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of engineering design and analysis experience, including 2 years supporting production hardware and resolving technical issues.
  • Hands-on experience designing parts for high loads or extreme environments.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, static structures, and heat transfer.
  • CAD proficiency required; NX preferred. FEA proficiency required; ANSYS and COMSOL preferred.
  • Ability to work on-site in a facility with industrial hazards, including strong magnets, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, lead, fumes, heat, cold, noise, and cryogenics; occasional travel, nights, weekends, and on-call work may be required.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing large-scale components involving megawatt-level power, ton-scale mass, or meganewton-level forces.
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14 GD&T principles.
  • Experience in production or heavy-equipment assembly environments.
  • Design experience with electromagnets, vacuum systems, welding, composite materials, radiation environments, or cryogenic environments.
