Software Engineer Team Lead (AI)

Location: Bristol or Bath, United Kingdom; 3 days a week in the office. Flexible hours, part-time, job-share and full-time arrangements are available, with some working from home possible.

What you will do

• Lead and support a small team of software engineers, mentoring them and helping deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Design, build and maintain modern software solutions that are scalable, maintainable and user-focused.
• Work with product, business and technical stakeholders to convert requirements and ideas into working products.
• Explore AI, emerging technologies, automation and workflow tools to improve software development and business processes.
• Contribute to technical design and architectural decisions while driving continuous improvement in engineering practices and delivery.
• Stay current with software engineering, cloud technologies and AI developments.

Requirements

• Around 3–5 years of software engineering or software development experience.
• Strong coding skills and experience delivering production software.
• Experience leading projects, mentoring colleagues or managing small teams; experience as a Technical Lead is relevant.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to different audiences.
• Interest in AI, machine learning and emerging technologies, with experience or knowledge of generative AI or large language models.
• Collaborative approach, product focus and comfort working in a fast-changing technology environment.

Nice to have

• Experience in start-up, scale-up or innovation-focused teams.
• Experience with automation, workflow tools or low-code/no-code solutions.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
