Software Development Manager (AI/LLM)

What you will do

• Manage a team of Software Development Engineers building scalable AI- and LLM-powered systems and customer experiences for Rufus.
• Set the team's tactical priorities and quarter- or year-long strategic vision.
• Provide technical leadership, career guidance, and mentoring to software engineers.
• Define software architecture, engineering practices, and approaches for reliable, scalable systems.
• Collaborate with product, program management, engineering, science, and design teams to clarify requirements and deliver execution plans.
• Anticipate bottlenecks, manage escalations, and balance business needs with technical constraints.

Requirements

• Experience managing high-calibre Software Engineers delivering complex, scalable software systems to customers.
• Experience designing or architecting new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• Experience delivering products in fast-paced, multidisciplinary, distributed-responsibility, and ambiguous environments.
• Knowledge of software and hardware development lifecycle practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations.
• Experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
• Experience partnering with product and program management teams.

Nice to have

• Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leadership about requirements, product features, technical designs, and strategy.
• Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and managing Software Engineering teams.
• Experience building products using large language models, generative AI, or agentic AI systems.
