UI Design System Lead (DTC)

Location: Leeds or London, United Kingdom; 3 days per week in the office

What you will do

• Own and evolve the UI design system across DTC and ecommerce digital properties.
• Define design tokens, reusable components, patterns, guidelines, versioning, contribution, and governance processes.
• Build scalable Figma foundations using variables, component architecture, auto layout, and reusable library structures.
• Partner with front-end engineering on coded components, design-to-code handoff, token implementation, and development workflows.
• Create documentation, training resources, and reviews that enable teams to adopt and contribute to the system.
• Maintain UI quality and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility across digital touchpoints while presenting roadmap and impact to senior stakeholders.

Requirements

• 5+ years of UX or Product Design experience, including at least 3 years building, maintaining, or scaling design systems.
• Expert proficiency in Figma, including variables, component architecture, auto layout, and scalable library structures.
• Experience with design tokens, reusable components, patterns, documentation, contribution models, and production component libraries.
• Working knowledge of HTML and CSS and practical understanding of how UI components are implemented in code.
• Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and their application to component design, interactions, and documentation.
• Strong systems thinking, communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional influence across Design, Engineering, Product, and Marketing.

Nice to have

• Experience in ecommerce, DTC, or another complex digital product environment.
• Hands-on experience with design-token pipelines and component-library tooling.
• IAAP/WAS accessibility certification or equivalent credentials.
• Familiarity with Git and design-system development, review, release, and versioning workflows.
• Bachelor's degree in Design, Interaction Design, or equivalent experience.
