Staff Software Engineer (Fintech)

Location: New York or San Francisco; on-site 3 days a week in the office

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for core systems and own architectural decisions across multiple teams and product areas.
• Define engineering standards, patterns, and best practices across the organization.
• Lead complex, ambiguous projects from problem definition through delivery.
• Translate long-term product and business goals into a coherent technical strategy.
• Identify high-leverage investments in tooling, infrastructure, processes, and engineering culture.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and direct collaboration, while representing engineering in cross-functional planning.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with a record of technical leadership at scale.
• Experience owning organization-wide technical initiatives, beyond individual projects.
• Deep backend expertise with Node.js, TypeScript, and modern cloud-native architectures; AWS experience is preferred.
• Ability to write production code, influence system design, communicate trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, and build consensus.
• BA/BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Preferred candidates are based in New York or San Francisco and must work on-site 3 days per week.

• Experience in fintech or similarly regulated, complex-domain environments.
