Staff Software Engineer - Credit Karma (Fintech)

What you will do

• Own the technical vision and long-term viability of the Credit Karma Portals platform.
• Design and evolve a real-time targeting engine that selects personalized content with millisecond-level response times.
• Integrate GenAI and machine learning models into production personalization and content-selection workflows.
• Lead complex technical initiatives across multiple systems, dependencies, and architectural layers.
• Build reusable tools, testing infrastructure, and workflows that help product and marketing teams deliver changes safely and quickly.
• Support senior engineers through technical design reviews, goal setting, feedback, and cross-functional work on technical debt and productivity gaps.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience delivering enterprise-class applications, with a strong focus on backend development, API design, and client/server contracts.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Java, and/or Scala.
• Deep expertise in scalable microservices, messaging patterns, Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform.
• Experience with relational schema design, NoSQL, ORM concepts, and high-volume, low-latency data pipelines.
• Ability to integrate and evaluate AI models in production, including LLM prompting and personalization algorithms.
• Strong foundations in object-oriented programming, algorithms, web application internals, test automation, and CI/CD; a relevant degree or equivalent practical experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with SaaS platforms or large-scale financial and experimentation platforms.
• Experience with GraphQL and Node.
• Experience defining long-term technical strategy and influencing engineering best practices.
