Product Development Engineer - Mass Timber Hardware

Location: Remote, based in Canada; specifically Surrey, British Columbia

Salary: CAD $80,000–$120,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

What you will do

• Develop structural connection products and enhancements for the mass timber industry from initial concept through prototyping, testing, and technical validation.
• Translate market needs, structural requirements, installation challenges, and manufacturing constraints into practical product concepts.
• Perform engineering calculations and analytical evaluations of structural behaviour, materials, design alternatives, and product requirements.
• Create CAD models, drawings, prototypes, test fixtures, and supporting technical materials.
• Plan and support laboratory testing, including specimen preparation, timber component handling, instrumentation, testing, and failure-mode evaluation.
• Lead assigned R&D projects, analyze test results, iterate designs, and coordinate internal and external technical contributors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Timber, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, or EIT status with the ability to pursue P.Eng. designation in the near term.
• Approximately 3–8 years of relevant experience in engineering, structural design, product development, physical testing, or applied research.
• Strong understanding of mechanics, structural behaviour, materials, and core engineering principles.
• Experience with CAD and engineering analysis tools, plus the ability to balance performance, manufacturability, cost, quality, installation, and construction requirements.
• Professional proficiency in English is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with timber engineering, structural connections, fasteners, mass timber, or building products.
• Experience with physical testing, laboratory research, prototyping, product validation, or experimental engineering.
