Sr SQL Administrator (SQL Server)

Location: Alameda, California, United States; on-site work required

Annual base salary: $140,000–$200,000 per year

What you will do

• Administer, maintain, patch, monitor, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server environments across on-premises, virtualized, and cloud-hosted platforms.
• Manage database availability, backups, restores, capacity, replication, blocking, deadlocks, jobs, and overall platform health.
• Design and support high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions, including Always On Availability Groups, clustering, log shipping, replication, and restore testing.
• Maintain database security, access controls, encryption, auditing, connectivity, service accounts, and data integrity.
• Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex database incidents and application-impacting events.
• Develop automation, monitoring, alerting, dashboards, documentation, and operational runbooks while collaborating with IT, applications, security, quality, and business teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of enterprise database administration or database engineering experience with a bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years supporting high availability, disaster recovery, backup, restore, and recovery strategies for business-critical systems.
• Strong SQL Server performance-tuning experience, including indexing, query optimization, execution plans, wait statistics, SQL Agent jobs, and maintenance plans.
• Experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, log shipping, replication, or equivalent technologies.
• Experience with database security, PowerShell, T-SQL, automation, monitoring, enterprise backup platforms, integrity checks, and disaster recovery testing.
• Willingness and ability to work on site in Alameda, California, provide rotating after-hours on-call support, and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or SQL Server hosted in Microsoft Azure.
• Experience supporting ERP, MES, LIMS, QMS, reporting, data warehouse, or enterprise application integrations.
• Experience with SSIS, SSRS, Power BI gateways, or related reporting and integration technologies.
• Microsoft SQL Server, Azure Database Administrator Associate, or equivalent certification.
