TL;DR
Trade Compliance Specialist/Coordinator (Contractor) (Export Controls): Supporting a trade compliance program for software, encryption, and technology classification with an accent on EAR and ITAR analysis, licensing, end-use diligence, and compliant software releases. Focus on reviewing source code and technical documentation, assigning ECCNs, supporting BIS license applications, auditing records, and coordinating legal, engineering, and business stakeholders.

Location: Remote, based in the United States; occasional travel may be required for team meetings and business needs.

Salary: $34–$51 per hour

What you will do

  • Support the development and operation of the trade compliance program, working with legal, engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • Analyze software features, source code, object code, and technical documentation for EAR and ITAR applicability and assign ECCNs.
  • Support country-of-origin, HTS, Schedule B, and supplier declaration data collection.
  • Verify end use and end users, identify red flags, and document diligence results.
  • Review encryption functionality and help determine licensing or BIS notification requirements.
  • Support license exception assessments, BIS license applications, recordkeeping, audits, training, and export-process coordination.

Requirements

  • 1–4 years of experience in trade compliance, customs brokerage, import/export operations, or logistics.
  • Experience with BIS license submissions, particularly deemed export licenses and software classifications.
  • Experience with project and program management.
  • Strong understanding of EAR, deemed exports, Technology Control Plans, and FOCI-structured organizations.
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree, trade compliance certification, or equivalent practical experience in international trade, business, supply chain management, information technology, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint, and Jira; strong analytical, research, communication, collaboration, and attention-to-detail skills.
