Scientist / Senior Scientist, Structural Biology

Location: California, United States; the role supports CryoEM platform activities at the South San Francisco site and is associated with the Thousand Oaks corporate headquarters.

What you will do

• Develop structural biology strategies and experimental plans for discovery teams.
• Perform and guide cryo-sample preparation, grid optimization, screening, data collection, image processing, model building, refinement, and structural interpretation.
• Deliver structural insights supporting mechanism-of-action research, molecular design, and therapeutic decisions.
• Develop scalable and reproducible CryoEM workflows that improve throughput, robustness, and data quality.
• Collaborate with Structural Biology, Protein Sciences, Therapeutic Discovery, Protein Engineering, Computational Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, Automation, and related teams.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, including automation and AI-enabled tools, and support the 200 kV Glacios 2 and 300 kV Titan Krios platforms.

Requirements

• PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field; PharmD or MD with relevant postdoctoral experience is also accepted.
• Alternatively, a master’s degree with 3 years of Structural Biology experience or a bachelor’s degree with 5 years of Structural Biology experience.
• Experience with structural biology methods and supporting structure-based drug discovery in an industry setting.
• Experience with challenging therapeutic targets such as membrane proteins, antibodies, multispecifics, or GPCRs.
• Experience developing methodologies that improve throughput, reproducibility, or success rates.

Nice to have

• Experience with X-ray crystallography, MicroED, electron tomography, or integrative structural biology.
• Familiarity with automated data collection software such as EPU.
• Experience mentoring scientists or training CryoEM users.
• Scientific publications, presentations, or technology innovation experience.
• Python or other programming experience and experience operating Glacios, Titan Krios, or equivalent instrumentation.
