Protein Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote, U.S. only; domestic travel required 20–40% of the time, including onsite work with pharma and biotech partners.

Salary: $220K–$300K annually, plus equity.

What you will do

• Evaluate and improve AI agent performance on protein engineering tasks, including sequence optimization, variant library design, stability and developability prediction, and functional screening strategy.
• Build benchmarks and success criteria for biologics-focused agent workflows.
• Deploy AI agents into partner protein engineering and biologics discovery pipelines.
• Assess AI-generated outputs for biological plausibility, manufacturability, and experimental feasibility.
• Collaborate with Forward Deployed Engineers and Computational Biologists to improve the platform.
• Support engagement scoping, success metrics, and technical evaluations with the go-to-market team.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Protein Engineering, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Bioengineering, or a related field, plus 5+ years of industry experience.
• Experience in biologics discovery or protein engineering, ideally within a pharma or biotech sponsor organization.
• Track record in protein optimization campaigns involving antibodies, enzymes, or other therapeutic protein modalities.
• Proficiency with protein design and analysis tools such as Rosetta, AlphaFold, FoldX, or molecular dynamics platforms.
• Strong understanding of protein structure, function, stability, and sequence–property relationships.
• Experience integrating developability, immunogenicity, and expression data into design decisions, with comfort working alongside computational biology and structural modeling teams.

• Experience working across multiple protein modalities.
• Python proficiency.
• Comfort with ambiguity, fast iteration, and client-facing or industry research contexts.
