TL;DR
Data Scientist (Manufacturing/Automation) (Python/SQL/Databricks): Building data products, scalable pipelines, dashboards, and applied machine learning solutions for manufacturing, supply chain, automation, and operational analytics with an accent on IIoT, predictive maintenance, computer vision, and GenAI. Focus on integrating SAP, MES, LIMS, PI Data Historian, and IIoT data, solving process improvement challenges, and delivering validated digital tools across site functions.

Location: United States; corporate headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California, with the role supporting the Amgen Ohio site in New Albany, Ohio.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain real-time and summary reports, dashboards, and data products for manufacturing and site leadership.
  • Define performance metrics across safety, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, and operations.
  • Extract, integrate, and analyze data from SAP, MES, LIMS, PI Data Historian, and IIoT platforms.
  • Build reusable data pipelines with Databricks, SQL, Python, and enterprise data platforms.
  • Apply statistical analysis, simulation, machine learning, predictive maintenance, computer vision, and SmartVision model maintenance to operational challenges.
  • Support IIoT capabilities, Digital Control Tower enhancements, requirements gathering, user acceptance testing, deployment, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in data science, statistics, applied mathematics, business analytics, engineering, computer science, or a related field; alternative education and experience pathways are accepted.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and SQL.
  • Experience with Databricks or similar cloud data and analytics platforms.
  • Experience building data pipelines, integrating operational or enterprise data, and developing reports, dashboards, analytical tools, or data products.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, machine learning, or predictive modeling.
  • Ability to solve problems, manage stakeholders, communicate clearly, and work across multiple functions in a matrixed environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience with large-scale data lakes, lakehouses, or data fabrics.
  • Familiarity with IIoT, time-series data, predictive maintenance, computer vision, manufacturing analytics, Generative AI, or emerging AI technologies.
  • Manufacturing, biopharmaceutical, engineering, operations, or supply chain experience.
  • Understanding of version control, testing, documentation, and software engineering practices.
