Product Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: New York City; in-person, five days a week in the office. Candidates should be located in the New York metropolitan area or be open to relocation to the United States.

Salary: $280,000–$425,000 per year, plus equity.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a high-performing team of Product Engineers while remaining hands-on with architecture, code reviews, debugging, and the most ambiguous technical problems.
• Set technical direction across frontend, backend, APIs, data models, workflow orchestration, integrations, observability, and model-dependent behavior.
• Partner with Product and Design to define the product domain, prioritize customer problems, and create a roadmap balancing immediate value with reusable foundations.
• Establish execution mechanisms for parallel workstreams, including ownership, milestones, risk discovery, technical reviews, and dependency resolution.
• Set quality standards for AI-native products, including evaluations, human review points, instrumentation, rollout criteria, fallbacks, provenance, and safe rollback.
• Own production quality and organizational improvement across reliability, latency, security, permissions, cost, on-call health, hiring, feedback, and engineering practices.

Requirements

• Background as a strong product or full-stack engineer with the ability to work deeply in architecture, code, and debugging.
• Experience leading a small engineering team that shipped and operated meaningful production products.
• Strong product judgment across customer evidence, interaction design, technical architecture, and organizational tradeoffs.
• Ability to make clear decisions with incomplete information, reduce complexity, and change direction when evidence changes.
• Experience recruiting engineers, giving direct feedback, addressing performance issues, and developing people.
• Willingness to work in person in New York five days a week, with relocation support available.

Nice to have

• Experience leading AI-native product teams involving agents, model-dependent workflows, or probabilistic outputs.
• Founder, founding engineer, or early engineering leadership experience at a fast-growing startup.
• Experience with B2B or enterprise products involving integrations, permissions, auditability, complex configuration, or high-consequence workflows.
• Experience partnering with research or machine-learning teams to move experimental capabilities into production products.
• Experience in simulation or computational social science, or building teams during rapid hiring.
