Technical Writer (Networking)

Location: Hybrid, with an average requirement of two days per week from an HPE office

What you will do

• Develop and maintain user guides, release notes, configuration and deployment guides, hardware installation guides, reference documentation, and quick start guides.
• Document networking hardware, including specifications, port configurations, LED indicators, mounting, cabling, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, subject matter experts, support, and other stakeholders to gather and validate technical information.
• Translate complex networking and hardware concepts into clear documentation for network engineers, IT professionals, system administrators, developers, and non-technical users.
• Draft and edit Markdown documentation in a Git-based branch and pull-request workflow, coordinating reviews and preparing updates for continuous publication.
• Create and edit technical diagrams, product illustrations, photographs, screenshots, and other visual assets for documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of technical writing experience in networking, IT, or the technology industry.
• Experience documenting networking hardware such as switches, routers, access points, gateways, controllers, or similar infrastructure equipment.
• Strong Docs-as-Code and Markdown skills, with experience using Git-based version control and static site generators such as Jekyll.
• Proficiency with MadCap Flare or similar documentation tools, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Illustrator.
• Ability to manage multiple deadline-driven projects, collaborate across functions, follow Agile methodologies, and use AI tools to improve documentation workflows.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, content management systems, CI/CD, or publishing automation tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps pipelines.
• Additional knowledge of networking products and solutions.
