Supplier Development Engineer, Battery

Location: Hybrid in the San Francisco Bay Area, with attendance at the San Francisco office 2–3 days per week. International travel of up to 15% is required.

Salary: $151,300–$203,000 annually for the San Francisco Bay Area.

What you will do

• Define battery cell, assembly, and integration processes that meet design, safety, quality, and operational requirements.
• Partner with battery, electrical, quality, materials, and product design specialists to optimize cell design and manufacturing processes.
• Identify, develop, and qualify battery cell suppliers, pack assemblers, and automation equipment manufacturers.
• Lead battery assembly line and automation bring-up from equipment specification and buy-off through installation qualification and production ramp.
• Drive global suppliers to establish and optimize battery fabrication, assembly, and pack-integration processes.
• Use manufacturing data to guide decisions on cell dimensions, capacity, tolerances, specifications, and product design.

Requirements

• 3+ years of direct experience in a battery or electromechanical manufacturing environment in a supplier development, supply base, manufacturing, cell/battery process, or supplier industrialization engineering role.
• Experience with lithium-ion or lithium-polymer cell design, fabrication, battery pack assembly, and integration.
• Experience qualifying manufacturing processes with global suppliers from NPI through mass production.
• Experience bringing up and qualifying automated battery assembly lines and manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to analyze failure modes, identify process or design root causes, and communicate challenges to leadership and cross-functional partners.
• Ability to travel internationally for up to 15% of the time.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with battery safety and regulatory standards, including UN38.3, IEC 62133, and UL 1642/2054.
• Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
