Sr Manager, Data Engineering (Databricks)

Location: San Diego, California, United States. Hybrid working arrangement with required on-site work from an hirify.global office; occasional travel of less than 10% may be required.

Annual base salary: $168,800–$253,250, with potential incentive compensation.

hirify.global is a medical device company developing the Omnipod tubeless insulin pump and other drug-delivery technologies for people with diabetes and other conditions.

What you will do

• Own the architecture, deployment, governance, and daily administration of Databricks Unity Catalog across development, test, and production environments.
• Design and enforce RBAC and ABAC security controls, identity federation, service-principal management, secrets management, and cloud data security.
• Administer multiple Databricks workspaces, including cluster policies, compute governance, SQL Warehouses, runtime versions, and infrastructure scaling.
• Automate workspace provisioning and data-asset delivery using Terraform, Databricks Asset Bundles or CLI, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Monitor platform usage and audit logs, optimize performance and cloud spend, and establish autoscaling, spot-instance, and cluster-sizing controls.
• Lead and mentor Platform Engineers and DataOps analysts, manage critical incidents, define data-availability SLIs/SLOs, and collaborate with Data Engineering and AI/ML teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Data Operations, Platform Engineering, or Data Architecture, including 5+ years administering or architecting enterprise-scale Databricks environments.
• Deep knowledge of Unity Catalog, data lineage, row- and column-level filtering, external data shares, and data governance.
• Strong experience with cloud data security, IAM, network security, VPC/VNet injection, Private Links, and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, HIPAA, or GDPR.
• Expert-level Terraform or cloud-native infrastructure automation skills, with proficiency in Python, PySpark, and SQL.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or an equivalent field; a master’s degree in a related STEM discipline is preferred.
• Must be able to work on-site from an hirify.global office in San Diego under the hybrid arrangement.

Nice to have

• Databricks Certified Platform Administrator or Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional certification.
• Experience in medical devices, healthcare, manufacturing, data quality assurance, or large relational and non-relational datasets.
• Experience with HIPAA, AI agent architectures, RAG pipelines, or MCP.
