Director of Data Modernization (Azure Databricks)

Location: United States - Remote, with 15–25% travel to healthcare client sites

Salary: $165,000–$200,000 per year, plus equity and benefits

What you will do

• Own technical architecture for data modernization engagements, including Azure Databricks, data landing zones, networking, and security controls.
• Lead and develop data engineers and cloud/infrastructure engineers across concurrent engagements.
• Lead technical discovery, source data assessments, and target-state platform design for healthcare systems.
• Review engineering deliverables, set quality standards, and make architectural decisions across the modernization practice.
• Personally architect and build the most complex engagements and ensure environments meet handoff criteria.
• Maintain technical playbooks and collaborate with Data Mapping Analysts and client IT teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 6+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform roles with demonstrated technical leadership.
• Deep expertise in Azure, including Databricks, ADLS2, Azure networking, managed identities, and Terraform or Bicep.
• Experience designing and deploying greenfield data platforms.
• Client-facing experience leading technical discussions with health system IT teams.
• Availability for 15–25% travel to healthcare client sites is required.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with EHR sources and clinical data models, especially Epic Clarity or Caboodle.
• Experience with Delta Share, Fabric External Sharing, or similar data-sharing protocols.
• Consulting, professional services, or data platform implementation experience.
• Experience designing architectures for HIPAA-regulated environments.
• Experience managing technical quality across concurrent engagements.
