Principal Electrical Engineer (Embedded Systems)

Salary: $160,000–$180,000 per year

Designs and builds VPX-style embedded computing cards for high-reliability control systems.

What you will do

• Lead digital and mixed-signal circuit design for embedded products from concept through production.
• Translate product requirements into complete schematics and maintain component symbols, libraries, and databooks.
• Lead PWB design and layout for PCI, VME, and VPX form factors, including high-speed Ethernet and Serial RapidIO routing.
• Define routing requirements for controlled impedance, stack-up, isolation, and differential pairs, and coordinate mechanical form, fit, thermal, and mounting considerations.
• Build and execute test plans, troubleshoot boards at a low level, and support design validation and product qualification.
• Prepare design packages, source-control drawings, technical reports, and manufacturing transition documentation while coordinating schedules and technical status.

Requirements

• US citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense security clearance are required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar field and 10+ years of relevant circuit-board design experience.
• Experience designing digital and mixed-signal circuits for embedded systems in high-reliability environments.
• Proficiency with schematic capture, PWB layout, and routing software.
• Hands-on experience interfacing DSPs, FPGAs, Flash, and RAM, with a solid understanding of communication protocols.
• Ability to perform low-level PCB troubleshooting and develop test cases.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Experience with MIL-DTL-23200, AS9100, ANSI/VITA VPX standards, or Agile development.
• Experience with PADS Design, PADS Layout, and PADS Router.
• Experience writing and debugging VHDL, FPGA design, and simulation for high-assurance products.
• Experience with the Atlassian Tool Suite.
