Metallurgical Development & Research Engineering Specialist (Ferrous Metallurgy): Developing cast and wrought alloys, foundry processes, and heat treatments for next-generation components and facilities with an accent on material performance, cost targets, and manufacturing standards. Focus on leading research projects, designing validation strategies, solving technical challenges in laboratory and manufacturing environments, and transferring new technologies into product applications.

Location: Mossville, Illinois, United States; onsite five days a week

Salary: $128,470–$192,710 annually

What you will do

  • Lead research projects focused on alloy and processing combinations that meet component performance and cost targets.
  • Develop cast and wrought alloys, foundry processes, and heat treatments for next-generation products and facilities.
  • Set project success criteria, assemble cross-functional teams, and manage technical challenges and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise metallurgical specifications and standards.
  • Collaborate with external laboratories and universities on research and testing.
  • Transfer new technologies into component applications and production facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering.
  • Expertise in casting operations, ferrous alloys, microstructures, heat treatment, and material and manufacturing standards.
  • Experience with metallurgical laboratory techniques, mechanical testing, and product validation.
  • Ability to lead technical projects, analyze data, assess risks, and resolve research or manufacturing problems.
  • Ability to work onsite in Mossville, Illinois, five days per week.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

  • Experience in product or technology development.
  • Advanced engineering degree.
  • Familiarity with ThermoCalc, JMatPro, or similar modeling tools.
