Location: Washington, D.C. newsroom; on-site five days a week

Salary: $97,400–$162,300 per year

What you will do

• Break news and produce original reporting on leading U.S. arts institutions, including the Kennedy Center, Smithsonian museums, Library of Congress, and National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities.
• Report on how government policy and political forces are reshaping cultural institutions and priorities.
• Deliver news, analysis, enterprise, narrative, and feature stories with speed, depth, and clear context.
• Build and maintain sources across cultural institutions, government agencies, and the broader arts ecosystem.
• Collaborate with visual journalists, designers, editors, and colleagues across politics, policy, and national reporting.

Requirements

• Track record of exclusive news and impactful enterprise reporting.
• Ability to report and write breaking news quickly, clearly, and accurately.
• Strong source-building and relationship-development skills across complex institutions.
• Passion for the arts and interest in the intersection of culture, politics, and public life.
• Ability to work on deadline and develop longer-term narrative projects.
• Commitment to fair, accurate, rigorous reporting and journalism ethics.

Nice to have

• Experience covering arts institutions or the ability to quickly build expertise and sourcing on a new beat.
• Experience or interest in visual storytelling and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
