Sr. Principal Software Engineer (Python/C++)

Location: Newton, Massachusetts, United States; minimum 4 days per week onsite.

Salary: $178,400–$267,600 per year, plus eligibility for the hirify.global Incentive Plan.

What you will do

• Lead architecture for the Prism Mapping platform’s foundational runtime, IPC, device communications, system services, and operational infrastructure.
• Define multi-release technical direction as the platform expands to support new clinical capabilities, hardware, and regulatory expectations.
• Set engineering standards for reliability, observability, performance, and safety in infrastructure software.
• Lead major subsystems, cross-cutting architecture, and complex technical initiatives from design through delivery.
• Drive alignment across software, systems, hardware, quality, product, and other cross-functional teams.
• Mentor senior and principal engineers and communicate technical trade-offs, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with at least 8 years, or a PhD with at least 6 years.
• Professional experience with Python and C++.
• Proven delivery experience with complex real-time, device-integrated, or networked systems.
• Experience leading large, complex, cross-functional technical initiatives.
• Expertise in Linux systems programming, real-time or near-real-time architecture, and device-connected systems is strongly preferred.
• U.S. work authorization is required; sponsorship is offered for Principal-level roles and above, subject to business needs.

• Experience architecting platform-level software used by multiple engineering teams.
• Experience defining architecture, standards, or technical direction across multiple components or teams.
• Experience in regulated environments.
• Experience introducing AI tools and approaches that improve engineering productivity and quality.
