Director of Data & Analytics (Insurtech)

Location: New York City or Austin, TX; hybrid office and remote working environment

A profitable, fast-growing insurance business that designs, underwrites, and distributes specialty coverage for commercial property owners and tenants while managing its own capital and technology stack.

What you will do

• Set the analytics strategy for data collection, management, analysis, reporting, and insight generation across insurance and investment operations.
• Lead and develop the analytics function, including team building, mentoring, reporting quality, modeling, and data practices.
• Translate complex data into actionable insights for executive decisions, operational improvements, and capital allocation.
• Build and operate hands-on analytics workflows, dashboards, models, KPI frameworks, and reporting platforms.
• Drive automation and modernization of analytics tooling to increase the speed and quality of insight generation.
• Partner with Finance, Operations, Product, and Technology on underwriting, claims, distribution, forecasting, and portfolio performance initiatives.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in analytics, data strategy, business intelligence, or a related field.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams or direct reports.
• Experience leading company-wide analytics programs and operating strategically and tactically in an autonomous environment.
• Strong background in data operations, statistical analysis, dashboarding, data governance, and executive communication.
• Experience with investment portfolios and/or insurance or financial-services analytics.
• Proficiency with modern data tools such as Snowflake, Databricks, Looker, Tableau, Power BI, SQL, Python, or Metabase.

Nice to have

• Experience in insurance operations, insurtech, or commercial real estate investment analytics.
• Background in operational analytics, underwriting data, claims modeling, or portfolio performance analytics.
• Experience in a fast-moving startup environment.
