Location: Washington, D.C. newsroom; on-site five days a week

Salary: $174,000–$236,600 annually, with potential eligibility for a bonus or incentive program.

What you will do

• Partner with the National Editor on editorial priorities and daily and long-term coverage strategy.
• Lead breaking news coverage while driving ambitious enterprise journalism across education, immigration, America and obituaries.
• Work with editors and reporters to develop original story ideas, sharpen framing and strengthen storytelling.
• Use audience insights, visual storytelling and digital best practices to increase the reach and impact of national coverage.
• Collaborate across the newsroom on consequential storylines and provide guidance supporting fairness, rigor, clarity and accuracy.
• Mentor and develop journalists while fostering a collaborative, inclusive and high-performing culture.

• Demonstrated record of editing or reporting with distinction.
• Exceptional editorial judgment and experience shaping ambitious, high-impact journalism.
• Strong ideas for elevating national coverage and engaging broad audiences.
• Excellent communication, organizational and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to accuracy, fairness and the highest standards of journalism.
• Ability to work on-site in the Washington, D.C. newsroom five days per week.
