What you will do

• Manage and coach a team of journalists to produce urgent daily coverage and ambitious enterprise stories.
• Provide thoughtful, deadline-driven editing with a focus on accuracy, fairness, and impact.
• Set coverage priorities for key local topics including public safety, housing, politics, and community life.
• Collaborate with visual, digital, and audience teams to optimize content delivery across platforms.
• Use audience data to guide coverage decisions while maintaining public-service journalism standards.
• Plan and coordinate coverage across digital, print, and newsletter formats.

Requirements

• Must be based in the East Bay and able to commute to Concord and Oakland offices at least three days per week.
• At least three years of editing experience, preferably in a daily newsroom.
• Excellent news judgment and ability to make sound decisions under deadline pressure.
• Strong record of coaching reporters and improving story framing.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Commitment to accuracy, fairness, and serving diverse communities.
