TL;DR
Senior Directed Energy Technician (High-Energy Laser/HPM Test Systems): Assemble, integrate, deploy, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and test-instrumentation systems for directed-energy weapon and UAS target testing with an accent on high-energy lasers, high-power microwaves, diagnostic optics, sensors, and field-deployable equipment. Focus on calibrating test systems, isolating hardware and software faults, connecting prototypes to Army command-and-control networks, and producing detailed incident and test reports.

Location: Huntsville, Alabama, United States; work is performed in laboratory, office, outdoor, and field environments. Travel up to 25% may be required for extended durations.

What you will do

  • Assemble, integrate, install, modify, operate, test, repair, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems, modules, wire harnesses, and control panels.
  • Fabricate and modify Group 1–3 UAS platforms used as dynamic targets for high-energy laser and high-power microwave tests.
  • Integrate target instrumentation including thermal sensors, laser power meters, telemetry equipment, diagnostic optics, sensors, and beam-profiling systems.
  • Deploy, align, maintain, and calibrate directed-energy test equipment, power-management units, cooling units, and field instrumentation.
  • Perform fault isolation, verify hardware and software data, and connect directed-energy prototypes to FAAD C2 networks for tracking verification.
  • Document troubleshooting and repairs, prepare Test Incident Reports and detailed test reports, and train junior technicians.

Requirements

  • US citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • 15+ years of hands-on technical maintenance or field-service experience.
  • High school diploma; an associate degree or technical trade certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency in soldering, crimping, splicing, cable fabrication, and control-panel building.
  • Ability to read diagrams and blueprints, use hand and power tools, handle industrial chemicals and adhesives, lift 35 pounds, and work for extended periods while standing, walking, bending, or reaching.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple projects, adapt to changing customer requirements, and communicate effectively in writing and verbally.

Nice to have

  • SolidWorks and industry-standard operating systems and applications experience.
  • Formal cable-assembly training, J-STD-001 certification, hazmat certification, or Class A CDL.
  • Circuit-board soldering, welding, quality inspection, laboratory management, avionics, or network experience with Cisco, Ubiquiti, or Netgear.
  • Programming experience with C#, C++, or Python.
