Test Technician, Staff

Location: Lansing, New York, United States

Salary: $19–$22 per hour

What you will do

• Prepare and condition nonmetallic samples for mechanical testing.
• Operate universal testing machines, DMA analyzers, and hardness testers.
• Perform tensile, elongation, hardness, compression, shear, and flexural tests.
• Record and analyze test data using laboratory software and spreadsheets.
• Calibrate and troubleshoot testing equipment while maintaining a safe, organized laboratory.
• Collaborate with engineers and senior technicians on custom testing plans and technical reports.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Materials Science, or a related field preferred.
• 2–5 years of experience in mechanical testing or a laboratory environment.
• Basic understanding of polymers, composites, and nonmetallic materials.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data-entry systems.
• Ability to lift and handle materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Strong attention to detail, procedural accuracy, communication, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with ASTM and ISO mechanical testing standards.
