Integrated Photonics Engineer I (Quantum)

Location: On-site in Rome, New York, with relocation to a commutable distance required by the start date; U.S. citizenship is required.

Salary: $75,000–$95,000 annually

What you will do

• Support research and development of components for wide-area heterogeneous quantum networks.
• Design, simulate, characterize, and optimize integrated photonic devices and circuits for quantum information processing, sensing, and communication.
• Assist with integrating photonics with light sources, detectors, and control systems.
• Support system-level optimization for data transfer, processing, and quantum entanglement.
• Assist with integrated photonic circuit tape-out, fabrication, testing, and layout using tools such as Lumerical, COMSOL, GDSFactory, or KLayout.
• Develop foundational expertise through hands-on work and mentorship from senior engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in physics, applied physics, or a closely related technical field.
• At least one year of professional or research experience; relevant internships, theses, or coursework projects may substitute.
• Basic familiarity with photonic device design and foundational knowledge of quantum optics and quantum information science.
• Willingness to learn photonic design software such as Lumerical, COMSOL, or ADS.
• Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain and maintain at least Secret clearance.
• Must be located in, or relocate to, a commutable distance from Rome, NY; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Exposure to integrated photonics fabrication concepts.
• Experience with optical testing and characterization, including spectroscopy, microscopy, or interferometry.
• Coursework or project experience in quantum algorithms, quantum computing, or quantum communication.
• Experience working in a collaborative, mentorship-driven environment.
