Optics Engineer II (Quantum Computing Hardware): Designing, assembling, aligning, characterizing, and testing high-precision optical systems and subassemblies for quantum computers with an accent on laser characterization, optical metrology, precision alignment, and opto-mechanical assembly. Focus on troubleshooting optical and optoelectronic systems, analyzing experimental and production data, and improving prototype and manufacturing readiness.

Location: On-site in Broomfield, Colorado, United States. U.S. Person status is required; candidates must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or green card holders, or workers granted asylum or refugee status. Candidates must not be nationals of China or Russia unless also U.S. citizens.

Salary: $102,400–$128,000 annually

What you will do

  • Design, build, assemble, align, characterize, and validate high-precision optical systems and subassemblies.
  • Perform optical characterization and metrology covering optical power, phase, frequency, polarization, stability, and frequency noise.
  • Troubleshoot optical and optoelectronic systems, conduct root-cause failure analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Analyze and present experimental and production data to support engineering decisions and design improvements.
  • Support prototype development, sustaining engineering, continuous improvement, and production readiness.
  • Create engineering documentation, test reports, build procedures, and design records in accordance with production standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in optics, photonics, physics, electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands-on experience with optical system design, integration, alignment, characterization, and testing.
  • Knowledge of lasers, fiber-optic components, optical instrumentation, modulators, spectrum analyzers, phase-noise analyzers, and frequency counters.
  • Experience with free-space and fiber-coupled optical or electro-optical systems, fiber handling, fusion splicing, and precision opto-mechanical assembly.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, presentation, and technical documentation skills.
