Staff+ Software Engineer, Developer Experience (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY. Hybrid policy: staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time. Preference is given to candidates based in New York or the Bay Area.

Annual salary: $405,000–$485,000 USD.

What you will do

• Drive the technical direction of the Claude Platform Console and documentation platform from problem definition through launch.
• Define platform patterns, engineering standards, and component architectures used by internal teams shipping features to the Console.
• Own SDKs across seven programming languages and the Claude CLI.
• Partner with API teams to deliver new platform capabilities as idiomatic, ergonomic SDK features on day one.
• Build and improve code generation, testing, and release pipelines that keep SDKs consistent and shipping quickly.
• Lead cross-team alignment, mentor engineers, and influence product and design decisions.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of practical full-stack engineering experience, with 2 or more years at Staff level or equivalent technical leadership.
• Experience leading the design and delivery of complex developer-facing products across the full stack.
• Strong expertise in modern frontend and backend development, including React and TypeScript.
• Experience establishing engineering standards, component architectures, and development best practices.
• Experience driving cross-team or cross-organization alignment and delivering impactful work through influence.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or professional experience in a relevant field.

Nice to have

• Experience in an early-stage startup or another rapidly evolving environment.
• Experience building products from 0 to 1.
