Principal Engineer (Data Engineering)

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable, enterprise-grade data architectures across ingestion, storage, transformation, serving, and governance.
• Build and optimize high-scale pipelines, performance-critical workloads, and platform capabilities using Databricks and Azure.
• Write, review, and refactor production code focused on performance, reliability, security, observability, and cost efficiency.
• Embed across data engineering teams to lead, accelerate, and de-risk critical projects.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, design reviews, coaching, and technical knowledge sharing.
• Advise stakeholders by translating business needs into technical strategies and explaining technical trade-offs.

Requirements

• Extensive data engineering experience with a record of delivering production-grade platforms and pipelines at scale.
• Near-expert hands-on proficiency with Databricks, Spark, Lakeflow, Delta Lake, Lakebase/Postgres, Unity Catalog, and the Azure data ecosystem.
• Experience designing and implementing end-to-end data architectures for complex enterprise environments.
• Expertise in Lakehouse, medallion, data mesh, DataOps, metadata-driven, and configuration-driven pipeline patterns.
• Ability to mentor engineers, lead through influence without direct reports, and establish engineering standards.
• Ability to work within the US/EMEA time zone.

Nice to have

• Experience embedding across multiple teams, geographies, and time zones.
• Familiarity with Azure DevOps, Databricks Automation Bundles, GitHub Actions, or equivalent CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code tooling.
• Knowledge of enterprise data governance, metadata management, and cataloguing.
