TL;DR
Aircraft Loads Engineer | Flight Sciences (Electric Aviation): Developing external loads and structural FEM for fixed-wing and VTOL electric aircraft with an accent on maneuver, gust, and ground-load analysis. Focus on defining certification-aligned load cases, supporting structural sizing and testing, and integrating flight-controls and multidisciplinary aircraft-design considerations.

Location: South Burlington, Vermont, United States

Salary: $150,000–$180,000 USD per year

Company

Develops electric aircraft with a focus on sustainable aviation and next-generation fixed-wing and vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.

What you will do

  • Lead external loads requirements and analyses for maneuver, gust, ground, and other aircraft load cases using six-degree-of-freedom models.
  • Define certification-aligned load cases for fixed-wing and VTOL aircraft.
  • Develop mass- and stiffness-representative structural finite element models and generate external loads for structural sizing.
  • Support component-level and flight-test loads development and execution.
  • Collaborate with Flight Science, Structures, systems, and Certification teams to accurately capture aircraft capability and testing needs.
  • Identify improvements in aircraft design and analysis through a multidisciplinary understanding of aircraft architecture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in aircraft loads analysis and testing, including maneuvers, gust response, landing loads, and miscellaneous load conditions.
  • Experience with aerodynamic analysis methods such as panel methods and CFD.
  • Experience with industry-standard loads analysis software, including NASTRAN or FEMAP.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, and CAD tools such as CATIA or SolidWorks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to implement new requirements and analysis processes.

Nice to have

  • Experience with vertical-flight load-case definition and analysis, including RCAS.
  • Understanding of flight controls and the impact of fly-by-wire systems on loads development.
  • Experience designing and analyzing loads-mitigation strategies.
  • Experience as an FAA Designated Engineering Representative.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time employment includes Restricted Stock Units and Performance Stock Units.
  • Onsite healthcare in Vermont, medical, dental, and vision coverage, and short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • Paid parental leave and daily lunch provided.
  • Flight lessons and additional employee perks.
  • Offers are contingent on successful completion of a background check; BETA participates in E-Verify.
