Sr. Process Safety Consultant (Industrial Safety)

Location: Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Columbia, Phoenix, or Westborough, United States. Willingness to travel 25–50% for client engagements and on-site PHA sessions.

Salary: $110,000–$175,000 USD annually.

What you will do

• Lead and conduct Process Hazard Analyses using HAZOP, What-If, LOPA, and FMEA methodologies.
• Manage the full PHA lifecycle, including methodology selection, preparation, team coordination, study execution, documentation, and follow-up recommendations.
• Consult on flammable liquids, reactive chemistry, and other high-hazard materials.
• Analyze P&IDs, PFDs, material data, and operating procedures to identify process hazards.
• Prepare and peer-review PHA reports for clients and regulatory authorities.
• Conduct site visits, evaluate compliance with NFPA, OSHA PSM, and insurer standards, and support proposals and client engagements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Process Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of process safety experience with direct involvement in conducting or facilitating PHAs.
• Recognized certification in PHA leadership.
• Experience with PHA software tools and process safety regulations, including OSHA PSM, EPA Risk Management Program requirements, CCPS guidelines, IEC 61882, and IEC 61511.
• Experience with consequence and frequency analysis, pressure relief systems, safety instrumented systems, industrial instrumentation, and control systems.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.

Nice to have

• Professional credentials such as PE.
• Functional safety credentials such as FS Eng, FSP, or CFSE.
• Engineering experience in oil and gas, chemical, pulp and paper, industrial gases, or pharmaceutical industries.
• Experience with client management and proposal development.
