Process Safety Engineer, Powders

Location: Devens, Massachusetts, United States; onsite

Annual base salary: $137,830–$189,510, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop and continuously improve the powder safety framework for titanium and other reactive metal powders.
• Create procedures, training materials, FMEAs, and Dust Hazard Analyses.
• Specify, evaluate, and qualify ventilation, filtration, inerting, fire suppression, and PPE systems.
• Conduct powder safety audits, identify gaps, and track corrective actions to closure.
• Coordinate with facility safety personnel, engineering, operations, and facilities teams on site requirements and operational readiness.
• Perform hands-on validation and verification activities and interact with third-party safety organizations.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of NFPA 660 and the hazard mechanisms of metal dust fires and explosions.
• Experience specifying or evaluating powder handling equipment, including gloveboxes, powder recovery systems, ventilation, filtration, or inerting systems.
• Comfort working in an active production environment and interfacing with operations and facilities teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with metal additive manufacturing systems such as laser powder bed fusion or binder jetting.
• Hands-on experience with reactive or combustible metal powders, including titanium or aluminum.
• Familiarity with industrial hygiene sampling and metal dust exposure assessment.
• Experience in regulated manufacturing environments such as aerospace, medical devices, or consumer electronics.
