Director of Engineering (AI)

Location: UK or Hungary — hybrid, with a preferred two days per week in Basingstoke or London, or Budapest

What you will do

• Build and lead a high-calibre Product & Engineering function of approximately 50 people across web, mobile, data, and cloud engineering.
• Hire, develop, and align engineering leaders and specialists across sports and technical disciplines.
• Establish engineering standards for reliability, platform quality, operational readiness, and shared data governance.
• Identify systemic reliability risks, fragile dependencies, and operational bottlenecks, then drive their resolution.
• Build the platform, data, and governance foundations required for safe, scalable AI-enabled software delivery.
• Define, build, and own the internal Platform-as-a-Service while leading Developer Experience enablement.

Requirements

• Strong technology leadership experience building data-driven product capabilities in organisations where reliability, scale, and coordination matter.
• Experience creating engineering ownership, standards, operational discipline, and trust across teams.
• Credibility with senior engineers and the ability to work across cloud infrastructure, data foundations, organisational design, and delivery.
• Ability to balance shared capabilities and standards with team autonomy and domain-specific judgement.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup from the UK or Hungary, preferably two days per week in Basingstoke, London, or Budapest.
