Staff Propulsion Test Responsible Engineer (Aerospace Propulsion): Developing and executing integrated engine test campaigns for the Terran R launch vehicle with an accent on propulsion test articles, hotfire operations, and engine system analysis. Focus on troubleshooting complex hardware behavior, reviewing test data, writing test sequences and code, and defining objectives for stage and flight campaigns.

Location: Full-time onsite in Long Beach, California, with approximately 25% travel to test and launch sites. Rotating first- and second-shift schedules and occasional weekend work may be required.

Hiring range: $164,000–$246,000 USD annually, plus salary and equity-based total rewards.

What you will do

  • Serve as the Responsible Engineer for propulsion test articles and own integrated engine test campaigns.
  • Develop test plans with product owners and execute campaigns with the Stennis test team.
  • Operate and evaluate new and existing test article designs to support engine development and certification.
  • Write test sequences and code, review data, work hands-on with test articles, design tooling, and operate the console during hotfire tests.
  • Support engine subsystem troubleshooting, product investigations, system analysis, simulation, and trade studies.
  • Contribute to stage testing and flight campaigns, including launch console operations, stage test objectives, and flight CONOPS.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in complex engineering system development and/or test environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, technology, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience applying engineering fundamentals in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and experience working collaboratively.
  • Ability to lead high-ownership projects to completion on ambitious schedules, including when unconventional solutions are required.
  • Ability to work onsite in Long Beach, California, travel approximately 25%, and work rotating first- and second-shift schedules.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to test operations environments.
  • Working knowledge of combustion devices, valves, heat exchangers, or instrumentation.
