Lead Systems Engineer (Defense)

Location: Onsite in Santa Clarita, California, United States

Salary: $108,900–$145,200 USD annual base salary, plus bonus.

What you will do

• Provide technical guidance and systems engineering expertise to customers, suppliers, management, and cross-functional program teams.
• Establish and manage requirements flow-down, decomposition, verification, documentation, and change control.
• Convert customer requirements into integrated hardware and software solutions that minimize technical risk.
• Lead major design reviews, including PDR and CDR, and report technical status to internal and external leadership.
• Develop technical documentation describing solutions for customers and engineering teams.
• Identify systems engineering knowledge gaps and plan training to support team development.

Requirements

• 7–10 years of experience at a US Department of Defense prime contractor or a company directly supporting one.
• Expertise in integrated system hardware/software development, integration, and testing for deployed military vehicle applications.
• Expert knowledge of DOORS and Cameo; working knowledge of ClearQuest, JIRA, and Rational development tools.
• Ability to operate and debug Linux- and VxWorks-based computing systems.
• Understanding of SOSA and VPX standards, serial communication protocols, Ethernet, PCIe, and USB.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with System Safety Assessments, Functional Hazard Assessments, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
• Experience troubleshooting rugged computing systems.
• Experience with RTCA/DO-254, DO-178 processes, and FAA certification.
