Financial Controller (AI)

Location: Remote within the U.S., with periodic travel to Boston

What you will do

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, revenue recognition, and reconciliations.
• Oversee the internal accounting team and outsourced accounting partner while maintaining internal controls, accounting policies, and audit readiness.
• Prepare management, board, investor, private-equity sponsor, and lender reporting packages, KPI scorecards, cash dashboards, and covenant compliance reporting.
• Support budgeting, reforecasting, variance analysis, cash-flow forecasting, and chart-of-accounts ownership.
• Evaluate and implement AI-enabled tools for close, reconciliation, reporting, and AP/AR automation.
• Build real-time financial and operational dashboards and improve integrations across ERP, billing, CRM, and expense platforms.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 2+ years as a Controller or Assistant Controller.
• Deep U.S. GAAP knowledge and ownership of a full-cycle close.
• Hands-on experience with modern ERP and accounting systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or Xero.
• Demonstrated use of AI and automation in finance or accounting, including close automation, AI bookkeeping, BI dashboards, or LLM-assisted workflows.
• Advanced Excel and financial-modeling skills, strong data fluency, and the ability to explain financial information to non-finance leaders.

Nice to have

• Experience in a private-equity-backed portfolio company, including sponsor and lender reporting.
• Experience in professional services, consulting, or technology businesses with project-based revenue and ASC 606 recognition.
• Experience selecting finance technology, leading finance-transformation initiatives, or managing outsourced or offshore accounting functions.
• Familiarity with SaaS and services metrics or AWS and cloud cost economics.
