Principal Systems Engineer (Defense)

Location: Ashburn, Virginia, United States

Salary: $144,100–$190,000 per year plus bonus

What you will do

• Lead large technical teams in meeting complex customer requirements.
• Represent the organization as a technical expert for customers, suppliers, and management.
• Synthesize requirements into the lowest-risk available solution and produce technical documentation for customers and engineering teams.
• Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams and report technical status and the way forward to varied audiences.
• Recommend training, evaluate technical performance and applicant potential, and assume technical responsibility for assigned teams.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience at US DoD prime contractors or companies that directly support them.
• Knowledge of hardware and software development, integration, and testing for deployed military vehicle applications.
• Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including rugged computing systems.
• Expert knowledge of DOORS and Cameo; working knowledge of ClearQuest, JIRA, and Rational development tools.
• Ability to operate and debug Linux- and VxWorks-based computing systems.
• Solid understanding of SOSA and VPX system design standards.
• Solid understanding of serial communication protocols, including MIL-STD-1553, RS422, RS485, RS232, 10G and 100G Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe, and USB.
• Solid understanding of current processing and graphics solutions.
• Ability to lead in a team environment, clarify ambiguous requests or requirements, and work in a fast-paced professional office environment.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
• BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Electrical Engineering preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience conducting System Safety Assessments, Functional Hazard Assessments, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis.
• Experience with RTCA/DO-254 and DO-178 processes and FAA certification.
