Principal Systems Engineer (MBSE)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States; consistent on-site presence required.

Base salary: $95,000–$245,000 per year.

What you will do

• Develop requirements, system concepts, interface concepts, and cross-domain solutions across the full systems engineering lifecycle.
• Apply model-based systems engineering to conceptual design, architecture, detailed modeling, customer reviews, verification and validation, integration, testing, deployment, and performance monitoring.
• Develop digital capabilities including digital twins and digital threads.
• Independently solve complex problems, clarify incomplete customer requirements, recommend design modifications, and adapt to changing requirements.
• Identify technical and program risks and develop and execute mitigation strategies.
• Lead medium-sized teams of 5–10 people, teach best practices, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

• 7–10+ years of experience as a systems engineer or in a related role.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related field.
• Subject matter expertise in systems engineering and practical experience with the systems engineering process.
• Practical experience with simulation-based performance analysis.
• Strong organization, planning, time management, oral communication, and written communication skills.
• Experience leading tasks and medium-sized teams, identifying risks, executing mitigation strategies, and aligning teams with program goals.
• Experience developing requirements and applying analysis techniques across technical challenges and disciplines.
• Applicants selected for the position must be able to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or higher.
• Knowledge or experience with GN&C, avionics architectures, fault tolerance, cybersecurity, communications and encryption, threat modeling, or related technologies.
• Proficiency with modeling and simulation, computer language coding, descriptive modeling such as SysML, and other engineering analysis methods.
• Expert-level proficiency in SysML.
• OMG SysML Certification.
