Software Engineer (Data Engineering)

Location: London Broadcasting House, with two days a week in the office (hybrid)

Salary: £52,500–£57,500 per year, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

What you will do

• Design and build data products for understanding media distribution and audience streaming experience.
• Maintain and extend a petabyte-scale data lake and ETL processes.
• Develop real-time stream processing pipelines for operational monitoring.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, engineers, device playback teams, the content distribution network team and third-party network suppliers.
• Identify requirements and deliver data products that provide measurable value.

Requirements

• Production experience with a programming language used in data engineering, such as Python, SQL or Java.
• Strong understanding of relational databases, object storage, data warehouses, modern data lake technologies and data modelling tools.
• Hands-on experience with batch or streaming data pipelines.
• Production experience with cloud services such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Experience working with third-party data providers, defining requirements and driving service improvements.
• Eligibility to work checks are required before employment.

Nice to have

• Infrastructure as Code experience for deploying data products at scale.
• Experience with data visualization tools such as Looker, Grafana or Power BI.
• Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams and using feedback to improve work.
