Senior RF Systems Engineer (Spacecraft Communications)

Location: Long Beach, California, United States; onsite

Salary: $147,600–$249,096 USD per year, depending on level and qualifications.

What you will do

• Design and model spacecraft communication systems supporting space-to-Earth, space-to-space, crew audio, and multimedia links.
• Generate system requirements, concepts of operations, block diagrams, and high-level analyses for artificial-gravity space stations.
• Work with integration and operations teams to define checkout procedures, launch and early orbit operations, orbital operations, docking, and crewed operations.
• Collaborate with avionics, structures, thermal control, and software engineering teams on integrated spacecraft systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 4+ years of experience in an RF engineering role.
• Experience with RF test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, VNAs, power meters, and cable analyzers.
• Software development experience with MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or another programming language.
• Familiarity with RF communication system design and analysis.
• Access to the work requires U.S. person status or eligibility for deemed export licensing under U.S. export control rules.

Nice to have

• MS or PhD in ECE, EE, physics, or a related STEM discipline.
• Experience with HFSS, STK, or ADS.
• Spacecraft system design or operations experience and knowledge of in-space effects.
• Understanding of RF modulation, media access control, coding, and error-correction schemes.
• Experience with CCSDS, DVB-S2, Ethernet/IP networking, VPNs, TCP/UDP, L2/L3 switches, VLANs, CAN, SPI, I2C, and RS-422/485.
