TL;DR
Senior RF Design Engineer I (RF Communications): Designing and developing RF products, including radios for space systems, with an accent on RF engineering, system design, circuit design, and product qualification. Focus on simulating and prototyping RF hardware, analyzing link budgets and cascaded devices, supporting test and production automation, and troubleshooting customer and program requirements.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements, and the role requires the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.

Base pay range: $130,000–$170,000 USD annually in California.

What you will do

  • Define and maintain RF product requirements and support development decisions aligned with product capabilities.
  • Design and prototype RF products, including component selection, PCB layout, fabrication, packaging, and performance simulation.
  • Design and simulate radio products such as the Frontier-Lite Radio.
  • Develop test plans, procedures, product documentation, ground support equipment, and production automation.
  • Review proposals and requirements, scope development activities, and support PDRs, CDRs, and TRRs.
  • Collaborate with test and manufacturing engineers, support customers, troubleshoot anomalies, and drive new product introduction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, RF communications, or another engineering discipline, plus 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Fundamental RF knowledge, including cascaded device analysis, link budget analysis, and HFSS.
  • Experience developing and delivering RF products, from requirements assessment and engineering prototypes to space-worthy production hardware.
  • Strong theoretical and practical understanding of RF communications, navigation systems, and related components.
  • U.S. citizenship is required; ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance is required.

Nice to have

  • Space-grade board design, parts selection, circuit analysis, reliability, thermal, derating, and FMECA analysis.
  • Experience designing, integrating, and testing RF communications systems for launch vehicles or satellites.
  • Experience leading complex engineering programs, project management, incident investigations, or conflict resolution.
  • People management experience and strong communication skills.
