Tooling Engineer I (Aerospace)

What you will do

• Design, activate, fabricate, and support fixtures and tooling for Haven-1 assembly, lifting, and handling.
• Define vehicle integration flows, manufacturing processes, tooling interfaces, specifications, and qualification plans with integration, manufacturing, vehicle engineering, and production teams.
• Perform mechanical analysis and develop FEA models for spacecraft fixtures and structural components.
• Create operation and maintenance plans for test fixtures and tooling and support project implementation.
• Manage project schedules, vendor relationships, tooling modifications, and the introduction of new tooling technologies.
• Develop tooling improvements that reduce production time or improve tolerances, while resolving production issues with engineers and technicians.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or another engineering discipline.
• At least 1 year of experience in aerospace, mechanical, automotive design, or tooling; university capstone, competitive projects, and internships may apply.
• At least 1 year of experience with NX or another 3D CAD package.
• Experience with GD&T, handling or lifting engineered assemblies, and creating and running FEA models for structural components.
• Knowledge of project planning, execution practices, and logic-linked schedule management.
• Must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing due to U.S. export-control requirements. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted and work evenings or weekends for critical mission milestones is required.

Nice to have

• Experience with work orders, assembly instructions, integration tooling, critical lifting and break-over fixtures.
• Experience designing pneumatic, electrical, or hydraulic motion systems.
• Passion for hands-on hardware development in a fast-paced environment.
