Summer 2027 Internship - Electrical Engineering (Buildings) (Industrial Facilities)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, United States

Salary: $30–$40 per hour, plus a monthly housing stipend and eligibility for overtime pay.

What you will do

• Assist with the design and BIM coordination of electrical power systems for industrial and mission-critical facilities.
• Perform load calculations, circuit analysis, panel schedules, equipment layouts, and electrical design studies under senior engineer guidance.
• Support medium-voltage distribution, backup systems, single-line diagrams, lighting design, grounding, and protective device coordination.
• Build and integrate electrical models using Revit and AutoCAD alongside mechanical and structural disciplines.
• Prepare specifications, construction drawings, and project documentation for large-scale facilities.
• Contribute to workflow automation and data analytics using Dynamo, Grasshopper, Python, or C#.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; junior or senior standing is preferred.
• Coursework or academic knowledge in electrical power systems, machines, circuits, building services engineering, power distribution, and load analysis.
• Exposure to BIM modeling software such as Revit and AutoCAD.
• Interest in learning lighting and energy modeling tools such as Dialux or IES-VE.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and collaborate across disciplines.
• Ability to work extended hours and weekends when necessary.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE standards.
• Experience with power system studies, short-circuit analysis, or relay protection.
• Exposure to renewable integration, generator systems, UPS, or battery energy storage.
• Understanding of data center electrical topologies, Uptime Tier standards, and redundancy design.
• Experience with AI design tools, visual programming, coding, or open-source projects.
