Lead Software Engineer (Java/Performance)

What you will do

• Own performance strategy and testing for Java microservices, Spark, Kafka, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, middleware, APIs, and distributed data pipelines.
• Design and execute load, stress, soak, and benchmark tests using production-like workloads and datasets.
• Identify bottlenecks, resource contention, latency, and JVM issues through profiling, observability, and monitoring tools.
• Tune Spark jobs, Kafka topics and partitions, Elasticsearch queries, APIs, and containerized workloads for throughput, latency, resource utilization, and cost.
• Build an end-to-end performance testing framework, including synthetic data generation and CI/CD integration.
• Collaborate with development, architecture, platform, and infrastructure teams and document findings for engineering leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in distributed systems and backend performance engineering, including 4+ years of Java and microservices development.
• 4+ years of hands-on Apache Spark experience and 3+ years each with Kafka, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, and JMeter or similar performance testing tools.
• Strong knowledge of JVM architecture, garbage collection, threading, concurrency, profiling, debugging, and observability.
• Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting, Spring and Hibernate, REST APIs, Linux, CI/CD, and performance automation.
• Experience with Kubernetes/Docker, cloud-native architecture on OCI, data lakes, caching, message queues, and benchmarking at PB-scale throughput.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, plus strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

• Experience with analytics platforms on Big Data.
