Senior Legal Counsel (Employment)

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States. The role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information; candidates must be a U.S. person or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Salary: $164,000–$232,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Serve as the primary legal advisor to the People Team and business units on employment law, employee relations, wage and hour matters, accommodations, leaves, compensation, contingent workforces, and terminations.
• Advise leaders on workplace complaints, disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, investigations, corrective actions, and legal exposure.
• Draft, review, and maintain employment policies, handbooks, employment agreements, offer letters, and hiring documentation.
• Monitor federal, state, and local employment legislation and translate changes into policy updates and business recommendations.
• Develop manager and leader training on anti-harassment, anti-discrimination, wage and hour compliance, accommodations, and lawful management practices.
• Partner with Talent Acquisition and HR on contractor classification, background checks, ban-the-box compliance, non-compete and non-solicit issues, onboarding, and global employment matters.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in a legal role at a private company or law firm.
• Employment-law expertise in a startup technology or high-growth organization, including contingent workforce matters.
• JD and admission to a state bar in good standing, with the ability to practice in-house in California.
• Strong problem-solving, judgment, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Must meet U.S. export-control eligibility requirements as a U.S. person or be eligible for deemed export licensing.
