TL;DR
SMT Test Technician (Aerospace): Supporting development, qualification, and acceptance testing for Haven-1 spacecraft components and structures with an accent on instrumentation, data acquisition, and structural test setup. Focus on troubleshooting test systems, operating hydraulic and pneumatic tests, fabricating fixtures, and processing test data for complex aerospace hardware.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, California, United States; short-notice travel to Mojave Air and Space Port is required.

Salary: $29.37–$56.92 USD per hour.

hirify.global develops next-generation commercial space stations, including the Haven station series, to support a continuous human presence in space, microgravity research, manufacturing, and commercial space operations.

What you will do

  • Support engineering projects and test campaigns with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Set up and operate structural, mechanisms, hydraulic, leak, and pneumatic pressure tests for aerospace components and structures.
  • Execute test procedures from engineering drawings, schematics, requirements, RFQs, and statements of work.
  • Troubleshoot data acquisition systems and test setups, implement solutions, and improve test robustness, automation, and duration.
  • Assist with test fixture design, fabrication, lifting operations, and design-for-manufacturability/test practices.
  • Maintain instrumentation calibration, process test data, and train less experienced team members.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in a testing field combined with electrical experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Experience with instrumentation such as strain gauges, load cells, pressure transducers, thermocouples, and deflection transducers.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition systems, data logging, data processing, and instrumentation calibration.
  • Fabrication skills including welding, machining, sheet metal work, drilling, milling, and lathe operation.
  • Must be a U.S. person under U.S. export control rules or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs, work at elevated heights and outdoors, and work overtime or weekends when needed is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with hydraulic load and structural testing for aerospace components or vehicles.
  • Experience with leak and pneumatic pressure testing.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance schedules and aerospace testing standards such as SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-810G, and GSFC-STD-7000B.
  • Experience with Jira, Google Workspace, and test equipment assembly using hydraulic hoses, AN fittings, stainless steel hardline, unistrut, or 80/20.
