Principal Failure Analysis Technician (Semiconductor)

Location: Malta, New York, USA; onsite work in a 300mm semiconductor fabrication facility with 12-hour shifts

Salary: $58,400–$100,800 per year

What you will do

• Perform advanced failure analysis using TEM sample preparation and imaging, SEM analysis, FIB cross-sectioning, top-down deprocessing, and chemical techniques.
• Execute complex analytical tasks independently and troubleshoot challenging samples, processes, and analytical tools.
• Support multiple semiconductor technologies, products, and sample types while responding to changing priorities and urgent customer requests.
• Own one or more analytical techniques as a subject matter expert, perform basic preventive maintenance, and improve tool uptime.
• Develop and refine standard operating procedures and best-known methods, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with lab engineers, managers, and cross-functional teams to define analytical methods, interpret results, resolve failure modes, and improve laboratory throughput.

Requirements

• Two-year technical or associate degree in science, mathematics, engineering, electrical engineering, semiconductor manufacturing, or a related discipline, or equivalent military training and experience.
• Significant experience in semiconductor failure analysis or an analytical laboratory environment.
• Strong experience with TEM and SEM sample preparation and analysis, analytical tool operation, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to execute complex tasks independently and follow laboratory work, safety, and documentation procedures.
• Fluency in English, written and verbal, is required.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts onsite in Malta, New York.

Nice to have

• Strong knowledge of semiconductor device structures, semiconductor processes, and high-volume manufacturing environments.
• Advanced experience with SEM, FIB, finger polishing, chemical etching, and TEM sample preparation.
• Experience in failure analysis, materials science, inorganic chemistry, or semiconductor manufacturing laboratories.
• Knowledge of failure analysis methodologies used in state-of-the-art semiconductor manufacturing.
• Experience managing multiple priorities with strong attention to detail and timeliness.
