Staff Equipment Design Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: San Jose, California, United States; travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.

Salary: $172,800–$216,000 base pay per year.

What you will do

• Lead the end-to-end development of specialized aircraft subsystem test equipment, from concept through customer acceptance.
• Define equipment architecture and integrate mechanical systems with Electrical and Controls Engineering.
• Perform DFMEA, worst-case tolerance stacks, FEA, CFD, and other engineering analyses for mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic designs.
• Manage project scope, budgets, timelines, technical requirements, and stakeholder communication.
• Lead design reviews and oversee manufacturing documentation, training manuals, and installation guides.
• Support equipment build, commissioning, debugging, technician direction, and final site acceptance testing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in specialized test equipment or complex machine design.
• Expert proficiency in 3D CAD, including SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX, and GD&T.
• Experience managing large, complex assemblies and producing high-fidelity manufacturing documentation.
• Experience commissioning automated equipment, integrating DAQ systems and sensors, and troubleshooting hardware.

Nice to have

• Experience developing electric powertrain or component-level test equipment.
• NX CAD experience in a Teamcenter environment.
• Experience delivering custom automation or test cells through factory integration and site acceptance.
• Hands-on assembly experience with complex mechanical and electrical systems and DFM/DFA knowledge.
• Proficiency with Jira, Slack, and Google Workspace.
