TL;DR

Staff Equipment Design Engineer (Aerospace): Leading the end-to-end design of specialized hardware for testing aircraft structural integrity and propulsion components with an accent on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Focus on translating high-level functional requirements into actionable technical specifications and overseeing the full lifecycle from concept to final site acceptance testing.

Salary: $172,800 – $216,000

What you will do

  • Lead the development of aircraft subsystem test equipment from initial concept to customer acceptance.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Electrical and Controls Engineering to define equipment architecture and design.
  • Execute high-level engineering analyses, including DFMEA and worst-case tolerance stacks, to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Manage project scope, budgets, and aggressive timelines as the primary technical point of contact for stakeholders.
  • Spearhead formal design reviews and oversee the creation of comprehensive documentation and training manuals.
  • Provide expert mechanical support during equipment build and commissioning, troubleshooting hardware through to final site acceptance testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Aerospace Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in specialized test equipment or complex machine design.
  • Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, or NX) and GD&T.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply FEA, CFD, and statistical tolerance analysis to solve structural challenges.
  • Extensive experience leading the bring-up, debugging, and integration of DAQ systems and sensors.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Direct experience in the development of electric powertrain or component-level test equipment.
  • Deep proficiency in NX CAD within a Teamcenter environment.
  • Proven success managing the complete lifecycle of custom automation or test cells.
  • Practical "wrench-heavy" experience in physical assembly (DFM/DFA).
  • Proficiency with Jira, Slack, and Google Workspace.
